Eternal Light: Spring Concert A Little Jazz Mass

Eternal Light: Spring Concert A Little Jazz Mass

Head to Malmesbury Abbey for an evening of contrasting English music by living composers.

Eternal Light, composed by Howard Goodall, intersperses the Requiem text with settings of poetry including the well known “Do not stand at my grave and weep” by Mary Elizabeth Frye. The writing is dramatic as well as lyrical and will provide plenty of tunes to hum on your way home!

Aesop’s Fables, written by Bob Chilcott, is a charming and witty setting of four of the famous fables including The Hare and the Tortoise. A Little Jazz Mass is probably the most performed of Chilcott’s works and blends the traditional text of the mass with upbeat jazz rhythms and harmonies to great effect.
