What a place we live in!
Malmesbury residents enjoyed the annual Malmesbury summer carnival, which boasted an impressive programme of fun-filled activities. With events ranging from the first ever Children and Young People’s Book festival to wine tasting and the Carnival Ceilidh, the Carnival committee had certainly outdone themselves to bring a jam-packed carnival to the masses.
Highlights throughout the month included one of the UK’s top folk acts, The Carrivick Sisters at St Mary’s Hall, the ever-popular Petticoat Lane Street Market and of course, Danter’s Funfair. But, as always, the heart of the carnival was the closing Carnival Procession. Malmesbury has hosted Carnivals for nearly 100 years and this year’s procession certainly lived up to expectations! With the town streets lined up with cheering spectators, the spectacle consisting of the inventions of the local participants, drew quite a few gasps of shock or perhaps awe from the crowds. Special congratulations to The Whole Hog and K&S Childcare & St Joseph’s School for winning in both the procession and cup categories, the hard work has certainly paid off! But winner or spectator, it’s safe to say that Malmesbury Carnival 2017 managed to ignite community spirit and bring a smile to everyone’s faces.
A successful carnival means more money raised to support Malmesbury’s local good causes, so why not have fun and give back to your local area by joining in the Carnival next year? Whether your interests are musical, theatrical, historical, keeping fit or simply having fun, you can always be assured that the carnival has something for everyone!
